News update and Seattle

Hello everyone! The translations of my words into Japanese will take some time because Brian has a job now! Well it's a temporary job but it will last for a few months. It's in downtown Chicago and close to the train station. So Brian has less time to translate. I might try but I think Brian's Japanese is better than mine. So everyone, please do your best to read my English (I'll make the easy English easier!)

We went to Seattle to visit Mel, our friend from Japan. Mel was an English teacher for one year in Yano and we became good friends. She lives in Tacoma, which is 45 minutes from Seattle. On our first two days we went to Seattle to walk around. It was a little cold but not too bad. We went to Pike's Market, which is a famous market in Seattle. You can get almost anything. I even saw some maitake, but they are very expensive in America compared to Japan! It made me laugh. I also saw people throwing fish around. It was very cool! We also went to the first Starbucks and I bought a mug. I don't think the coffee tasted different from the Starbucks in Chicago or Hiroshima but it was fun to see where it all started.

The next day we were joined by Fish. Fish was in Japan for three years teaching English and he lived in Kure. We went to the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. Tacoma has a big glass industry according to Mel. We got to see people blowing glass and making beautiful sculptures. I saw so many beautiful things that I wanted to take home.

The last day we decided to go for a hike in the rainforest. The rainforest in Washington is very different from rainforests in places like South America or Singapore. This rainforest has lots of moss, pine trees, and mushrooms. We made temaki (handrolls in English) to take with us. I am a little out of practice at making temaki but they tasted alright. We stopped in a small town called Poulsbo which had lots of cute shops and bakeries. We bought some chocolate and bread there. THe hike was lovely. Brian likes moss a lot so he was really happy. It was an easy and fun hike. We really enjoyed ourselves. We took a ferry back to Seattle and ate dinner then went home. We flew back to Chicago the next day. It was great to see Mel and Fish and talk with them about their lives now as well as all the fun we had in Japan.

Easy English:
Hey guys! Brian has a job, but it is temporary. It is very easy to go to his job because it is close to a train station. So it will be hard for me to translate my blogs. Please do your best with the easy English!
